Thanks to an outburst by Agent Jasper Sitwell in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Dr. Stephen Strange has been established in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A solo movie has been confirmed to be in the works, and director Scott Derrickson and writer John Spaihts have been hired to make it a reality. We’ve heard that filming will take place in England next year, and it’s been said that the production will be targeting the July 8, 2016 release date that Marvel has carved out. Obviously that’s quite a lot of good information to have about an in-development project, but we’re still waiting for an answer to the film’s most important question: who is playing Doctor Strange?!

We’ve been finding ourselves asking this question quite a lot recently, as the Hollywood rumor mill has continued to pump out a stream of possible candidates for the Doctor Strange role. While Joaquin Phoenix was considered a frontrunner for a long time (though not anymore), we’ve heard names like Tom Hardy, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jared Leto, Jon Hamm, Ethan Hawke and more come up in conversation – with Marvel Studios confirming absolutely nothing. It’s pretty clear that they are working hard figuring out the exact right direction to go in, so for this week’s Hero Blend I decided to perhaps try and help them out.

Joining me on this week’s episode is Cinema Blend’s own Sean O’Connell, and together we pitch six different actors who we would like to see potentially take on the lead role in Doctor Strange. Who do we want to see get the part? You’ll have to watch to find out!
