Hideous Nanny Battles Child Abusers![]()
The cast of Love Actually reunites and joins the director of Waking Ned Devine for an oddball version of a Mary Poppins story with a twist of Lemony Snickets.
Universal Pictures has released the trailer for Nanny McPhee, a kids adventure starring Emma Thompson, Colin Firth, Thomas Sangster (the cute little kid from Love Actually) and Angela Lansbury. Based on the classic children's books about Nurse Matilda by Chrisianna Brand and adatped for the screen by Emma Thompson, the story follows nine naughty, motherless children who must rely on their magical (but darned ugly) nanny to save them from their wicked great aunt who has taken them from their father. As you can see from the poster on the right, it dares not show Nanny McPhee's creepy face, but its hard to miss in the trailer. The trailer doesn't exactly inspire any excitement except for the fact that Angela Lansbury (who is nearly 80, Lord bless her) makes her first appearance on the big screen in over 20 years (not counting voice roles like Beauty and the Beast). No doubt the movie will be a hit with the kids. How it will rank with adults its still up in the air. Perhaps their counting on some nostalgia from those of you who read the Nurse Matilda books as a kid. Check out the trailer and stills below to behold Emma Thompson looking like she's been beat with an ugly stick. Directed by Kirk Jones, Nanny McPhee lands in theaters next January. |
