The Hobbit Trailer Gets Four Alternate Endings
As it is the ending of the new Hobbit trailer is pretty great. Helping establish that the tone of the new movie will be different than the Lord of the Rings trilogy - the book is, anyway - the final shot has the dwarves getting comically smushed by a falling...goblin? giant? troll? (it's kind of hard to tell without knowing the larger context of the scene). What you may not know, however, is that Warner Bros. has actually released four alternate endings for the trailer that you can watch right now.
On the official Hobbit website they are now showing five different versions of the trailer that was released earlier today, including the one that we all saw with with dwarves. The alternate choices include a scene with Gandalf and Bilbo on horseback, Bilbo reading the contract given to him by the dwarfs, Elrond looking at Bilbo's sword Sting, and Gollum in the cave with Bilbo (can you tell who the main character of the movie is?) The only "unfortunate" thing about the way the site is constructed is that you basically have to watch the entire trailer again to see the new endings, but it's hard to complain about watching footage from Middle Earth over and over again (you can watch the wide released preview HERE).
The film is based on the first book by J.R.R. Tolkien and stars Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins, a Hobbit who goes on an adventure with Gandalf (Sir Ian McKellan) and a troop of dwarves to rescue a long lost treasure from a giant dragon named Smaug (Benedict Cumberbatch). The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is the first of a trilogy, followed by The Desolation of Smaug and There And Back Again, and will be released on December 14th.
