Running with Scissors director Ryan Murphy is working on a moving about the making of Alfred Hitchcock’s 1960 classic Psycho. So of course he’s going to need someone to play the great Hitch. Hollywood-Elsewhere says Anthony Hopkins may have the part. These days, he certainly has the belly for it. Helen Mirren is also supposedly in talks to play Hitch’s wife and collaborator Alma Reville.

The movie is called Alfred Hitchcock Presents, named after the old television show which opened each week with an introduction from Hitch. Psycho was filmed in the same location as Hitchock’s television show, using most of the crew from the ‘Alfred Hitchcock Presents’ series. Apparently the production was a difficult one, with Hitch discouraged from making it right from the start. Paramount simply didn’t want him to make it, and though the movie was “too repulsive” and “impossible to film”. Now of course, it’s not only regarded as one of Hitch’s best movies, but perhaps one of the best ever made.

Alfred Hitchcock Presents is one of several different movies about the master director currently in varying stages of production, though with Murphy and possibly Hopkins and Mirren involved this one jumps right to the top of the list as the most high profile.
