The Host Adds Titanic Co-Star Frances Fisher To Its Growing Cast
What’s this? Non-Oscar news? Well, sure. The rest of the industry might be sleeping off its hangover, but we’re busy prepping for the next big movies coming down the pipeline. With the Twilight Saga winding down, teen lit fanatics are looking down the road to The Host, director Andrew Niccol’s adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s best-selling sci-fi novel which continues to add cast members ahead of a soon-to-begin shoot.
Deadline says Frances Fisher is the latest name added by Niccol to his growing ensemble. The Titanic co-star -- who’s also know for roles in Clint Eastwood’s Unforgiven and Matthew McConaughey’s The Lincoln Lawyer -- joins Saoirse Ronan, Diane Kruger and Jake Abel in the futuristic thriller. Fisher has been tapped to play Maggie, a character the site describes as “a stern aunt to Melanie (Ronan) and sister to Uncle Jeb (William Hurt) … (who) are among the few human survivors of a parasitic alien species called the Souls which have plagued Earth.”
It’s hard to know what to expect of The Host. Because it comes from Meyer, I’m sure Open Road Films would love to see it make a fraction of the Saga’s box office. But that’s likely unrealistic. It might even have a hard time keeping pace with The Hunger Games, which is shaping up to be a massive hit. We’ll know more once Niccol begins filming, which will happen soon. Principal photography is scheduled to begin in March in Louisiana and New Mexico. And The Host is on track for a March 29, 2013 release date.
