If you were thinking that there isn't enough teenage vampire entertainment since the cancellation of that one television show whose name escapes me, you’re in so much luck. Twilight, an adaptation of the first book in a young adult series by Stephanie Meyer, is being turned into a movie. The series can be referred to as “vampires meet The O.C..” At least, that’s how I’d refer to it, and you may as well.
The series (and, by extension, the movie) follows a girl who moves to a new town and falls in love with a high school stud who happens to be a vampire. The girl, who is not a vampire, doesn’t want to be killed by the vampire and he doesn’t want to kill her (he’s the good kind of vampire) so they don’t do much but burn with unfulfilled passion. It’s just like your high school, except for the undead creatures roaming the halls.
The Hollywood Reporter says that the hot young high schoolers will be played by hot young actors and actresses. Robert Pattinson, previously seen as Diggory in Harry Potter will be Edward, the vampire. Kristin Stewart, who tried to get busy with Emile Hirsch in Into the Wild plays Bella, the non-vampirish girl. Catherine Hardwicke will direct this Lost Boys for the new millennium and the script has already been churned out by former The O.C. writer Melissa Rosenberg. Sharpen up your, uh, eyeteeth, production starts in early 2008.
