Hugo Weaving Voices Megatron For MegaPaycheck And Has Never Met Michael Bay![]()
Hugo Weaving, to many people outside Dorkdom, is still a “that guy.” That guy from The Matrix, that guy from Lord of the Rings, and currently that guy in The Wolfman.
Weaving recently took on the role of Megatron for the Transformers films, and it sounds like he gives even less of a shit about the series than us in the “God that movie sucked” camp. In an interview with The Age, the 49-year-old actor scoffs at the idea of a third film, and admits “it’s a voice job,” so disconnected from traditional acting that he only ever spoke with Michael Bay on the phone: "Oh no," he barks with a laugh. "They're not making Transformers 3, are they?" Given that Transformers 2 made $800 million, they're probably going to have to. "[Director] Michael Bay talks to me on the phone. I've never met him. We were doing the voice for the second one and I still hadn't seen the first one. I still didn't really know who the characters were and I didn't know what anything was. It's a voice job, for sure, and people assume I've spent my life working on it, but I really know so little about it." This certainly doesn’t qualify as late-breaking news; I just think it’s amusing that someone as prominent in the film as Weaving couldn’t care less about it. Hell, you expect actors to talk their films up, not admit flat-out that it was just a paycheck. If this was said about his involvement in LOTR it might be an infuriating blow to the nerd community, but since Transformers is as looked down upon as teen moms, no one should have any problem with Hugo taking a fat paycheck where he can get it. |
