While Jeremy Renner and Anthony Mackie have both broken out since their performances in the Best Picture-winning The Hurt Locker, Brian Geraghty, who played the third member of their trio, has sadly not had the same level of success. While his co-stars are starring alongside the likes of Tom Cruise and Sean Penn in Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol and Gangster Squad, respectively, Geraghty hasn't done anything comparable. That is, until now.

THR reports that Brian Geraghty has been cast alongside Denzel Washington, Don Cheadle, Bruce Greenwood and Kelly Reilly in the Robert Zemeckis' directed Flight. Written by John Gatins, who also scripted the upcoming robot boxing movie Real Steel with Hugh Jackman, the movie is about a pilot named Whip (Washington)who saves 98 lives when he is able to safely land a damaged plane. While Whip is seen as a hero at first, an investigation is launched to find out what the pilot was up to the night before. Geraghty will be right at the center of the story as Whip's co-pilot. Following the crash, Geraghty's character finds religion.

While Renner and Mackie had the more showy roles, I've never understood why The Hurt Locker wasn't as successful in launching Geraghty's career. His performance in the Katherine Bigelow film managed to be both nuanced and powerful and he deserves more. Given that this project is Robert Zemeckis' return to live-action filmmaking after a 10 year break and that the actor will be sharing a good deal of screentime with Denzel Washington, this could very well be his second chance.
