I Love You Phillip Morris Finally Finds A Distributor

By Katey Rich: 2009-05-12 09:19:58
I Love You Phillip Morris Finally Finds A Distributor For a movie starring Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor, I Love You Phillip Morris sure has had a hard time finding its way to audiences. It debuted at Sundance earlier this year, where Josh noted " I don’t know who or what its audience is," and since then has repeatedly failed to find a distributor, despite the interest in the central romance between Carrey and McGregor's characters.

Now the strange-sounding comedy has finally found a distributor, Consolidated Pictures Group, a new production and distribution company that formed at the same Sundance that saw Phillip MorrisVariety notes that the company signed a seven-figure deal with the movie's financier.

Phillip Morris will be screening again overseas very soon, as part of the Directors Fortnight at Cannes. It's entirely possible that the film has undergone some tweaks since the Sundance premiere, and may be a little more comprehensible and audience-friendly this time around. They'll need it if this movie is ever going to find any level of success-- Carrey and McGregor are both recognizble names, but often enough when they've done something out of the ordinary (The Cable Guy, name half of what McGregor has done), audiences have ignored it entirely. Time will tell how this one turns out.
