The completely bizarre and motley cast of Thor, led by Shakespearean actor-turned-director Kenneth Branagh, has added another strange piece. Idris Elba, the actor best known for his role on The Wire and a recent stint on The Office, has signed on to play Heimdall, the guardian of Thor's hometown of Asgard.

According to THR, filming begins in California on the Marvel Comics adaptation, with Chris Hemsworth starring as the titular god of thunder. Idris Elba has been widely celebrated by everyone from snooty Wire fans to the inexplicable millions who saw Obsessed, and I can't wait to see what he brings to a comic book movie that sounds as crazy as this one does. We've gotten past the point where any of us can wonder how this is happening-- now we all just have to sit back and wait to watch the madness begin.
