The Impossible Will Hit Blu-ray In April

J.A. Bayona’s 2012 film, The Impossible, didn’t make a huge impact at the box office, but it has become a higher profile movie thanks to its characters and its subject matter, which follows the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami and its aftermath. Starring Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts, the film has earned laud for its performances, and Watts has even been nominated for an Academy Award. Now, Summit Entertainment (a Lionsgate company) has plans in motion to bring the film to Blu-ray, DVD, and digital download this spring.

We still have a while to wait before The Impossible is released. If you do plan to purchase the movie, which follows a family on vacation in Thailand when the big tsunami hits, you’ll be able to nab digital copies beginning on April 2. Those who wish to purchase the film on Blu-ray or DVD will have to wait until April 23, however.

If you were formerly touched by the movie when you saw it during its theatrical release or simply think the historical value of a film based on an event in recent history should make for a great movie, you’ll probably be better off waiting the extra few weeks for a DVD or Blu-ray copy of the flick, which will also come with several bonus features. The Impossible is based on a true story, and Watts’ character is based on a woman named María Belón, who also happened to be highly involved in the process of making the film. Since Belón will also pop up several times throughout the bonus features, I hope her true-life narratives can inform the extras on the disc. You can check out the full list of bonus features, below.
