Is it just me or are we getting spoiler information from weirder and weirder sources these days? It used to be there were rumors flying around the web from this or that person who was on the set or snuck into the editing room, but now we’re reading the tea leaves thanks to cryptic sentences uttered at press events, abandoned script drafts, and even action figures. Now we’re getting some Indiana Jones information from one of the most mundane and bizarre sources yet: a Monopoly board.
Ain’t It Cool News has a scoop from one of their many tipsters that Hasbro is already working on the Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull Monopoly tie-in game, and some hints about the movie are contained within the game. Yeah, forget buying Park Place or raiding the Community Chest—what you really want to know about are those damn aliens! Happily the tipster, Jaromir, has a bit of information on that front.
It seems that, back in the day, there was an Indiana Jones sequel script titled Indiana Jones and the Saucer Men from Mars. No, I'm not kidding. While that sounds like the worst idea in the world, it looks like the movie might keep a plot point from that movie, about Indy stumbling onto a fake town that exists as a nuclear testing site. Could this be related to the alien speculation, given the Roswell tie-ins we saw in the trailer? There’s also a mock-up of the crystal skull, or, as the tipster says it, the metal version used as a game token.
The board game also works in a bizarre catchphrase that seems destined for repetition and glory: “It’s not the mileage, it’s the years.” Man, there are going to be more old-age jokes in this thing than in The Bucket List. Han Solo, what’s happened to you?
Apparently Ain’t It Cool is developing a reputation among its commenters for hating on Indy, but this info seems pretty neutral to me. Yes, it’s silly that there’s a tie-in Monopoly game, but otherwise all signs are pointing to a little-bit-silly, lotta-bit-awesome Indiana Jones adventure.
