Usually seeing a movie at a film festival gives you the bragging rights that you're seeing a movie first, before all your sucker friends at home can catch it in theaters. But Alexander the Last, the new film from mumblecore standout Joe Swanberg, will debut simultaneously at the South by Southwest Festival and through IFC's Video-On-Demand service in March.

The new partnership was announced today at the Sundance Film Festival, with Steven Soderbergh on hand to talk up what a good program it is. His Che, a four-hour biopic about Che Guevara that had pretty much no shot at a regular theatrical release, benefited greatly from the exposure of the IFC On Demand service.

Variety quoted Swanberg, ""It's a smarter way to make the release an event. Better than just sitting in a theater, waiting on people to come." The film will debut at SWSW and on your tricked-out home television on March 14.
