Audiences don’t like Indiana Jones as much as they like Tony Stark, assuming you judge popularity by box office numbers that is. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull had its first full day of release yesterday, and despite extremely high early ticket sales, didn’t break any records, and it didn’t even break Iron Man’s single day totals from a week ago.
It did however, do really really really well. In fact, it made more in one day than some movies (I'm looking at you Speed Racer) will make all year. Box Office Mojo is reporting that Indy 4 opened with a hefty $25 million take on Thursday, making it the fourth biggest Thursday opening of all time and landing it waay down on the list of single day openings at number 28. First place Thursday is still Star Wars Episode III, with a stunning $50 million Thursday back in 2005. Iron Man opened with $35 million earlier this month.
Don’t weep for Indy though. He’s getting great reviews from critics (although not from any of the ones I know), the mainstream media tells me audiences love his new movie (even though almost none of those people seem to post on our forum), and $25 million is a lot of money. Indiana Jones is headed for a big box office weekend.

Geez, I've only read two articles on this website and they've totally slammed two movies I really like....
Personally, I thought the fourth Indy film could've been better; I didn't care for the alien/sci-fi idea.
But come on, Iron Man beating out Indy? Indy is such a better charater than some guy that has to make himself a superhero.
Who cares about box office results and that crap? We all love Indy more than some lame guy that probably won't have a career near as good as Harrison Ford's.
You compared Indy's opening to Iron Man's inferring that Iron Man made more money than Indy during it's opening
"Audiences don’t like Indiana Jones as much as they like Tony Stark, assuming you judge popularity by box office numbers that is. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull "
While it is true Iron Man had a bigger opening day number, it's also true that the two are not comparable because Indy opened on a Thursday. If the producers for Iron Man could have chosen to either have a Thursday opening and see their film make 56-million in two days or have a Friday opening and see their film make 35-million they would have easily chosen the 56-million two day number.
Iron Man had by its fifth day of release approximately 115-million in receipts; Indy will have somewhere in 135-150 million range. Indy's opening will be bigger than Iron Man's and it's not even close; it's just more spread out. I understand you didn't like Indy that much, but what I don't understand is why you are distorting its box office performance.
same old script with just new chracters and guy is so old..., when would he ... any ways i think this movie is overated... yes it is ok but not an outstanding movie.
