Indy Can't Defeat Iron Man's Opening Day Box Office![]()
Audiences don’t like Indiana Jones as much as they like Tony Stark, assuming you judge popularity by box office numbers that is. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull had its first full day of release yesterday, and despite extremely high early ticket sales, didn’t break any records, and it didn’t even break Iron Man’s single day totals from a week ago.
It did however, do really really really well. In fact, it made more in one day than some movies (I'm looking at you Speed Racer) will make all year. Box Office Mojo is reporting that Indy 4 opened with a hefty $25 million take on Thursday, making it the fourth biggest Thursday opening of all time and landing it waay down on the list of single day openings at number 28. First place Thursday is still Star Wars Episode III, with a stunning $50 million Thursday back in 2005. Iron Man opened with $35 million earlier this month. Don’t weep for Indy though. He’s getting great reviews from critics (although not from any of the ones I know), the mainstream media tells me audiences love his new movie (even though almost none of those people seem to post on our forum), and $25 million is a lot of money. Indiana Jones is headed for a big box office weekend. |
