Inside Llewyn Davis Set Photos Arrive Online, Is The Movie A Screwball Comedy?
Last year was the first time since 2006 that the Coen brothers didn't release a feature film. From 2007's No Country For Old Men to 2010's True Grit, the writing/directing duo maintained one of the most impressive streaks in modern cinema, collecting 20 Oscar nominations and four wins, including ones for Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Director, and Best Picture. Fortunately the drought won't last too long, as they have already begun production on Inside Llewyn Davis. But are you like me and just can't wait to see what the brilliant filmmakers have in store for us next? Well, then I recommend reading on.
The New York Times has posted a full gallery of photos from the set of Inside Llewyn Davis that show off Joel and Ethan Coen as well as some of the period set dressing that will be featured in the film. While you can scope out some of those images below, one of the more curious elements included in the NYT write-up is that they refer to the film as a "screwball comedy." While the Coens are no stranger to this genre - just look back at Raising Arizona, The Hudsucker Proxy, O Brother Where Art Thou? and Intolerable Cruelty - I'm not sure that any of us thought that their next movie was going to fall into that category. Now you can check out a few of the shots below and head over to the source to see the rest.
Starring Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, Justin Timberlake, Garrett Hedlund, John Goodman, and F. Murray Abraham, Inside Llewyn Davis is a story about the folk music scene that emerged in 1960s New York, the same movement that produced singer-songwriters like Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, and Phil Ochs. Isaac plays the title role and is supposedly based on Dave Van Ronk, who was a significant figure when the music started. |
