Insidious Chapter 2 Set Photo Shows Off The Creepy New House
James Wan’s Insidious stood apart from the typical ghost-story pack by being smarter than your average bear. Case in point: In one of my favorite sequences, Renai (Rose Byrne) and Josh Lambert (Patrick Wilson) suspect that their house might be haunted. Instead of ignoring the signs, the family simply moves. I love that. So sensible. The trouble is, the demented spirit wasn’t in their house … it was in their son!
The family apparently will get an even new house in Insidious: Chapter 2 (great title), which Wan’s currently filming with most of the original cast. Screenwriter Leigh Whannell took to Twitter to share a photo of the house being used for the sequel. As he jokes, look out for “the eerie image of a ghost in the bottom left hand corner.”
If only we knew what Insidious: Chapter 2 is about. The entire Lambert family has been brought back for the sequel, including the accusatory grandmother Lorraine Lambert (the great Barbara Hershey). We’re also reportedly going to see paranormal investigator Elise Rainier, played by the great Lin Shaye … though her assistants – played by Whannell and Angus Sampson – are not on the IMDB page. Could Shaye return without her cohorts?
Insidious was one of the most profitable movie of 2011, earning an estimated $97 million off its budget of $1.5M. The fact that Wan didn’t have to spend a fortune made its scares that much more rewarding. I’m praying Wan doesn’t overdo it with special effects now that he likely has a larger budget to play around with, because the original Insidious scared us with what it didn’t show, and not what it put up on screen.
