A new international trailer for Night at the Museum 2 is out and at first glance there’s hardly any difference between it and the domestic trailer we got two months ago. In fact, I felt like I had seen almost all of this new trailer before, so I went back to the original to compare the two. It turns out there are a few differences, but they are slight. Mostly, they’ve reduced some of the predominantly American things (Abe Lincoln, General Custer), and play up more international elements (Napoleon Bonaparte, the Egyptian king).
From a marketing move, the subtle changes make a lot of sense for advertising the film that might appeal more to an overseas audience and, frankly, the Napoleon bit looks a lot better than Custer doing a gag from Army of Darkness.
