International Trailer: State Of Play![]()
State of Play started off looking like a bona fide Oscar contender, given that it was attracting some big name cast members (Helen Mirren, Russell Crowe, Ben Affleck) and was based on a prestigious British miniseries. When it picked an April release date, the Oscar buzz faded a bit, but the trailers thus far have been so good that it still seems worth looking forward to.
The new international trailer for the film, posted by Yahoo! Movies, doesn't contain a lot of new content, but has a good pace to it that fits State of Play pretty well within the pantheon of crusading journalist conspiracy movies. The film stars Russell Crowe as a reporter investigating the murder of an assistant to a Congressman, played by Ben Affleck. The investigation gets predictably ugly and violent, there are lots of heated conversations and purposeful walks through newsrooms, and the poor, soon-to-be-unemployed journalists of America get to feel important again. So yeah, movies about crusading print reporters may be a dying art, given that the newspapers themselves are falling apart. But State of Play at least looks like an enjoyable swan song. Check out the trailer below. State of Play comes out April 17. |
