Shocking! Startling! And Unbelievable! Iron Man director Jon Favreau is actually encouraging his actors to act through ad-libbing and improvising! Acting in the moment and reacting to the other actors in character is what the profession is all about and many times, improvisation leads to the best material. If actors were forced into static words on the page you’d end up with the Star Wars prequels. So, it’s hardly news that Favreau is actually directing the movie, but MTV Movie Blog reports it anyway.
“We were talking about improvisation in [Surf’s Up]; well, we’re doing a lot of improvisation in Iron Man to discover scenes and get off the written page and doing a lot of work like that,” said a confused Jeff Bridges, who plays Obadiah Stane, as that’s what actors have been doing since the time of ancient Greece. “I know Jon is very interested in grounding it as much in reality as he possibly can. The suit for instance, the first suit, it looks like, ‘Oh yeah, maybe that could happen.’ It’s all possible.”
In a more interest bit of news, Bridges hinted at donning the first suit as the Iron Monger.
“I might, I might. but, on the other hand, I don’t want to spoil it for the viewers,” Bridges said with a wink.
