Is G.I. Joe 2 Not Going To Be In 3D?![]()
Looking at the list of blockbusters set to be released this summer, almost every single one of them is in 3D. Pirates of the Caribbean? 3D. Green Lantern? 3D. Captain America? 3D. Harry Potter? 3D. Cars 2? 3D. Studios are absolutely in love with the technology, particularly the fact that it raises ticket prices and inflates box office gross, but if a story going around is true, then one of next summer's major sequels won't require special glasses.
Collider is reporting that G.I. Joe 2 will neither be filming in 3D, nor will it be post-converted. The move would be a sincere surprise as the director helming the project, Jon Chu, has established himself as a director very much in favor of the extra dimension, having previously released both Step Up 3D and Justin Bieber: Never Say Never using the developing medium. When the director was asked about the project last month he said that he had an interest in making the movie in 3D but that the decision hadn't been made yet. Production on the film is scheduled to begin in August and film will be released on August 10, 2012. If the story is true, then this is actually quite remarkable. It was reported only last month that Paramount was trying to pressure J.J. Abrams into making Star Trek: The Second into a 3D film and I even attended an event on the Paramount lot last night extolling the virtues of the new technology. Though my dislike of the movement is on the record, G.I. Joe 2 is a project that would fit perfectly with 3D. Furthermore, the idea that Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby will be in 3D and G.I. Joe 2 won't is utterly preposterous. |
