The Metal Gear Solid franchise is probably one of the most cinematic experiences you can have with a video game. News burbles up every couple of months about the plans to adapt the video game series into a movie, but there hasn’t been any serious development on the saga. That may change soon, however.
Producer Michael De Luca, currently making the rounds for the upcoming heist/poker movie 21, recently chatted with Coming Soon and said that work on a Metal Gear Solid adaptation can start moving forward now that the writer’s strike is finished. The producer plans to start getting something pulled together, and even hinted at a possible director. Apparently De Luca plans to talk with Kurt Wimmer, director of Equilibirum, and hopefully convince him to work on the script and possibly even direct. This is just talk about talks that are going to happen, however, so don’t count on Wimmer just yet. The general consensus seems to be that he is the right man for the job, however, so here’s hoping.
