Oh the fundamentalist Christians are not going to like this one. Kick-Ass director Matthew Vaughn is teaming up once again with comics writer Mark Millar, with plans to adapt Millar's American Jesus into a feature film. The book, true to the title, is about Christ's return to Earth in America, and an eventual standoff with the Antichrist.
They're planning to start the thing as soon as next summer, according to THR, and will probably also make the movie without studio funding. As with Kick-Ass, which apparently features kids beating the shit out of each other, American Jesus might be too controversial for a studio to mess with it. But given the success of last summer's Wanted, also based on a Millar comic, surely they'll be lining up to distribute once the thing is made.
