Is This Giant Metal Thing Bane's Doomsday Device In The Dark Knight Rises?
If you've learned anything about Tom Hardy's Bane as depicted in The Dark Knight Rises based on the endless videos and photos from the movie's Pittsburgh shoot, you probably remember the video captured by an extra at Heinz Field, from a scene in which Bane interrupts a football game with an explosion and a menacing speech. In the speech, broadcast by loudspeaker to the entire stadium, Bane urges Gothamites to "take control of your city" and offers up something that he calls "the instrument of your liberation."
Now we know what that instrument is-- maybe. Comic Book Movie snagged set photos of what they're calling Bane's "doomsday device," and what others are calling his Orb. Take a look at two of the photos below. ![]() ![]() Comic Book Movie is tying this prop into the one we saw during Bane's speech at Heinz Field, a big shiny metal thing rolled up behind him during his big speech. But to me, they don't look alike at all. Take a look at the video below to see what I mean. So how do we know this is Bane's doomsday device, or anything related to Bane at all? We don't-- like every other set photo or video gleaned from The Dark Knight Rises, we're all just piecing things together based on our own conjecture, as the team actually making the movie refuses to tell us anything. At least given the size and elaborate design of the device, we can assume it's not just some random background prop-- whatever this diving bell-looking thing is, it's probably going to play a major role in The Dark Knight Rises when we finally see it next summer. |
