Is Transformers 2 Already Shooting? There’s some speculation that Michael Bay may be pulling a Spider-Man 2 with his Transformers sequel, with filming potentially already underway despite the existence of a final script or a formal production.

Sam Raimi had camera crews shooting plate shots for his web-slinging sequel before his script was finished so he could get a head start on the visual effects. For an effects-laden movie like Transformers, it wouldn’t be hard to believe the same thing was going on, although the shots for the Transformers sequel, if there are shots going on, may be a little more formative, with actual characters appearing instead of just background shots.

The motivation behind the speculation is a series of camera-phone shots featuring one of the Transformers vehicles (Barricade, he police car) loaded onto a car carrier. There are several versions of the car, which isn’t much of a shock. After all, if something happens to the main car they need a backup readily available. It does support the idea that some filming may be happening rather than just transporting the cars from one place to another.

Considering the production on Transformers 2 isn’t slated to get underway until June, I’m not certain this isn’t more than just preparation. Perhaps the cars are being tested for some stunt or something? FSR even suggests it could be some crazed fan with cool replicas, although that seems as much of a stretch as early filming.

Head over to Film School Rejects to see the images of Barricade loaded on a carrier.
