The rumor mill has apparently taken a break from grinding out candidates to play the Joker in the sequel to Batman Begins and instead focused on a new love interest for Bruce Wayne. As we announced several weeks ago, it seems unlikely Katie Holmes will return for the Batman sequel, a move I personally think is a bad idea. Holmes wasn’t that bad in Batman Begins and keeping a love interest for more than one movie would be a good idea for the Batman franchise, particularly a love interest who knows Bruce Wayne’s little Bat-secret.
However it appears Holmes won’t be back and there’s no use crying over spilt milk. According to Batman on Film the new contender to play Wayne’s love interest is rumored to be Isla Fisher (I Heart Huckabees, Swimming Pool). As pointed out by Cinema Confidential The one benefit of replacing Holmes’s assistant D.A. character, is that it opens the door for Harvey Dent to enter the Batman World, possibly setting the tragic character of Two-Face to become the villain in a future movie. It’s a perspective I hadn’t considered. Maybe if they can keep Fisher around for more than one movie (or not share the Bruce Wayne/Batman secret with her character) I’d be a little happier about this idea. |
