J. Jonah Jameson Won't Be In The Spider-Man Reboot? image
Since the Spider-Man reboot was first announced early last year, I've argued that the one untouchable member of the cast was J.K. Simmons, who played the perfect J. Jonah Jameson in Sam Raimi's trilogy. Since then, all of the other major characters have been cast, from Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man to Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben, but we've heard nothing outside of rumor in regard to Jameson. So who's playing the gruff editor in chief of the Daily Bugle then? The answer is nobody.

According to IGN, J. Jonah Jameson will not be making an appearance in Marc Webb's Spider-Man, the site crediting "very reliable sources." Earlier this year there was a report that John Slattery and Sam Elliot were being considered for the role, but nothing was ever made of it. Though JJJ won't be playing a role, however, The Daily Bugle will have its place, as set pictures from earlier today have indicated.

I must say that I am kind of stunned by this news. Every incarnation of Spider-Man has had J. Jonah Jameson involved at some level, and to not have him borders on blasphemous. While Spider-Man has always done battle with villains like The Green Goblin and Dr. Octopus, Jameson has always been the bad guy for Peter Parker. Perhaps they are planning to use the character in future installments, but I must say that this is pretty crushing news.
