Because making movies with the men in her life has done such wonderful things for her career in the past (Gigli, Jersey Girl), Jennifer Lopez’s next movie has her co-starring with Marc Anthony. Say what you want about Ben Affleck, but at least he was an actor rather than a once popular musician.
The movie is El Cantante, a dramatic biography of Puerto Rican salsa pioneer Hector Lavoe. The film follows Lavoe’s (Anthony) passionate relationship with Puchi (Lopez) and his skyrocket to international fame. In the mix are a lot of drugs and angst. Typical musician stuff no matter what language they sing in.
Picturehouse Films has just sent us the first poster for El Cantante. While I can’t say I’m particularly excited about the movie, at least the poster is pretty cool. I love the retro style they’re going with. See it below, or see it in high-res by clicking here.

Umm.. Once popular? Marc Anthony is one of the most respected singers in Latin America. Just because he hasn't released any material in English lately doesn't make him "once popular." He's an icon and has more talent in his left pinky toe than Affleck could ever muster.
I agree with you Luis, Marc has and will always be more popular than Affleck. I never thought Affleck was much of an actor and never thought he was good enough for Jen L or Jen G. I think Marc and Jen look wonderful on the poster as well as in real life.
Can not wait to see this film. I sure hope that it brings home a lot of our culture's background. Specifically for those of us that come from el Barrio & the Bronx. Hector's music speaks to my soul when I listen to his tunes I can almost see myself and everyone that I once knew on the streets of 106 Street. I hope that our fellow community and fans will come out an support this film's release. I believe it will be hit and I hope that it will replace the Scarface and Carlito's Way fan fare
PLEASE SUPPORT THE RELEASE!!!! So far, from what I've seen this movie could end up with some awards (Oscars, etc) I grew up with Hector's music and still to this day I listen to it and tell my two kids about his life and salsa. My father's a musician and we plan to "caravan" to the movie theater on opening night with everyone wearing Hector Lavoe t-shirts (ordered from ebay and other sources). I also plan to have Puertorican -inspired after-party when we return home. Please promote the movie!!!! It will only make us Puertoricans more well-known and more envied than we already are!!! And Yes Marc and Jennifer CAN ACT!
Just saw the promo. Too much of JLo and a horrible accent that comes and goes. And why does she keep playing herself in films??? She should've let a real actress do it! LOVE Marc, though. This is his big moment to shine! He was MADE for this role. No one else could do it justice.

Just like bori76 says......PLEASE SUPPORT THIS FILM!!!!!!. We have to be proud of these two puertorican icons. Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez. We have to prove critics and hipocrits wrong. We want to make history with a Puerto Rican Biopic. Yeah!...."HECTOR LAVOE"...EL CANTANTE DE LOS CANTANTES" for which as far as I can remember, the world have not seen yet. So, we can all make this happen not only for the actors and cast, but for our own selves. We need that respect and integrity on behalf of this fim. SOOOO, WE'LL SEE YOU AT THE MOVIES!
I saw the movie twice. I hope every Hispanic, especially Puerto Rican's will support "El Cantante" It was a great movie and the acting as well. Jeniffer should get a mention for "Oscar" The passion she brought to the screen. I mean I was like WOW. My friend and I looked at each other and said WOW. We Loved, Loved, Loved it. I Don't know why there was so much "Hype" about this Film... Okay, Marc Anthony looks like Hector LaVoe, Thats it Period End of Story. But Sounding like Hector LaVoe.... NO WAYYY! Hector LaVoe had his own way of style of singing the tracks he recorded. Now about the Movie, Yes His drug use was over played on Film. Yes He Was a Junkie. Who Isn't ????? I knew Hector LaVoe back in the day. Yes he was a Hard Core Drug Abuser. But a Great Singer. The Movie was called "El Cantante" Not Jennifer Lopez.
Someone mentioned An Oscar for Jennifer Lopez or the Movie... This was hardly an Oscar Nod. Babel Deserved an Oscar, That was a Great Movie, Well Directed, Great Storyline. Good Actors. Shall I Go On. I Am A Puerto Rican. Just Because 2 Puerto Rican actors played the lead in the El Cantante, does not call for an Oscar. Movie could or should have been better. the Great thing about the movie was the Soundtrack. Thats All. What did u think about the last song on the Cd ??? It Sucked Big Time. Why was it even in the Cd ??? Its a Shame that Someone would say Please Promote the movie Because it would make us Puerto Ricans well known and more envied .... What this movie promoted was that Hector Lavoe Who was Puerto Rican, a Junkie and a Great Singer who also was Puerto Rican... I, as a Puerto Rican would not like to be compared to as a Junkie.
