Jack Black is constantly signing on to all kinds of comedy projects, so it makes sense that at some point he would have to pare down his schedule. The Hollywood Reporter writes today that Black has dropped out of Man-Witch, a comedy he was planning to make with Old School director Todd Phillips.
The concept sounds straight up Black’s alley—he plays a man who discovers he’s a witch, and heads off to teach at an all-girl’s witch school (a single-sex Hogwarts!). Apparently Black wasn’t sure that Phillips was committed to directing the movie before he started work on Hangover, another comedy I’d never heard of before reading this article. Sad that a potential team-up of the two was derailed by doubts like that.
Apparently the comedy will still happen, given that Phillips is a pretty big name on his own, with or without Black. And yeah, the movie might have been a little too School of Rock to be entirely original, but it still sounded entertaining and funny. Hopefully they can find another actor who can fill in Black’s shoes. I guess when you’re a panda and in the #1 movie in America, you can’t be bothered by silly witches.
