With his larger than life personality, Jack Black will have no problem talking down to the tiny people of Liliput. Black is set to play Gulliver in the newest cinematic adaptation, Gulliver’s Travels. Looks like short, stocky and hilarious is the new face of adventure.
Jonathan Swift’s Gulliver’s Travels is set to become the next big book-to-flick crossover.
Variety reports that Jack Black has attached himself as Gulliver and, by doing so, caused Twentieth Century Fox to greenlight the adaptation.
The story follows a surgeon-turned-ship captain as he sets sail for new lands. He discovers an island of little people, who manage to tie him down, literally. An island of big people is next, and the adventurer gets snagged in their crosshairs too. And etc. etc. It’s an adventure story, so there are lots of tribulations in different lands. Since Jack Black is short, but big for his height, I think he’s perfect. Although it will be hard for me to remove the image of Ted Danson as Gulliver from my mind, I’m sure I’ll adjust to the more comedic take Black will surely have.
