You knew it was too strange to be true. Two weeks ago we brought you word here that Peter Jackson's name was being thrown around in conjunction with a possible Jet Li/Jackie Chan team-up movie. It was an idea so crazy that it almost seemed cool.
Well forget it.
Instead, MonkeyPeaches says Rob Minkoff has gotten the job. Minkoff has made his career, up till now, out of directing kids movies. His last project was the mediocre Eddie Murphy movie The Haunted Mansion, though the biggest bullet point on his resume is probably one of the best animated movies ever made, The Lion King. He might seem a strange choice for a Chan/Li movie but, disappointingly, the project is apparently a kids' movie. Bummer for you and me, but that makes Minkoff a perfect and logical fit.
