History has seen many exciting match ups – Kirk and Spock, Peanut Butter and Jelly, and Milli and Vanilli. Alright, maybe not that last one, but there is soon to be a new match up to go down in the annals of history. Forbidden Kingdom, halfway through its shooting schedule in China, will bring together two modern cinematic kung fu masters, Jackie Chan and Jet Li, reports Variety
If anyone cares about the story (though why would you? Did I mention Chan and Li?), an American teenager (Michael Angarano) finds a mysterious staff and is transported back to ancient China, kinda like in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3. There he meets a kung-fu master Lu Yan (Jackie Chan) and a deadly silent monk (Jet Li) on his journey to return the staff to its owner, the Monkey King, imprisoned by an evil warlord (Collin Chou).
Wasn’t Jet Li retired? Never mind. At least Chan will finally be paired up with someone who will understand the words coming out of his mouth. No word on a stateside release date. But, the pic is budgeted at $70 million, so it seems to be grandiose enough to get a wide release.
