Jackie Earle Haley and Bella Heathcote In Talks For Tim Burton's Dark Shadows
Thanks to a ridiculously long pre-production phase (the film has been in the works since 2007), we've never been too short on news about Tim Burton's adaptation of the 1960s horror series Dark Shadows. But while Burton has always had Johnny Depp by his side to star in the film, the plan has never been to make it a one man show. With production scheduled to begin in April, the casting process is long overdue, but today it looks as though they've nabbed two more.
According to Deadline, both Jackie Earle Haley and Bella Heathcote have entered negotiations to co-star with Depp in Dark Shadows. The story of a rich family that finds itself haunted by strange occurrences, Heathcote will play a young governess named Victoria Winters who travels to the estate to discover her origins. Earle Haley will play Willie Loomis, a con artist who has taken residence with the family with plans to swindle them out of their riches. Loomis' story changes, however, when he begins looking for the tomb of the late Barnabas Collins (Depp) with plans to rob it, but discovers that Barnabis is, in fact, a vampire, who turns Loomis into his slave.
As difficult as I find it to be excited about a Tim Burton project nowadays, I must say that I am excited about this casting. Bella Heathcote is one of Australia's brightest up-and-comers and Jackie Earle Haley is great to watch in anything (while he couldn't save it, he was the best thing about the horrible Nightmare on Elm Street remake). This could be the right material and the right cast to finally get Burton going on the right track again.
