I know Fox is keen to make Avatar 2 but, even though this story has him talking about making the sequel, I still don’t get the feeling that James Cameron is all that into making another Avatar. Cameron still hasn’t actually agreed to make another movie and he’s not really working on it at all. Really he’s more into working on a novelization of the Avatar you’ve already seen, which sounds kind of like a colossal waste of time to me. Avatar’s pretty much worthless without the visual component.

So who knows when or if Cameron will ever actually make another Avatar movie, but should he get around to it, the director has a few ideas kicking around in his head about how he might like to do it. For instance he tells MTV that he might just do Avatar 2 and Avatar 3 back to back. This is actually something that’s been rumored before but now he explains why they might want to do it. Says Cameron, “That is something that makes a lot of sense, given the nature of these productions, because we can bank all the [motion] capture and then go back and do cameras over a period of time.”

Sounds nice, but I still half believe the sequel will never get made and that JC will end up riding around in another submarine taking pictures of starfish instead.
