James Cameron Gabs About Avatar![]()
It’s been a whopping nine(!) years since James Cameron introduced his last feature film, a little deep-sea-tragedy called Titanic that made killer waves at the box office. His next film Avatar, previously known as “Project 880”, will be released through 20th Century Fox in Summer, 2008. You’ve waited this long, what’s a couple more years?
Cameron sat down recently with Hollywood Reporter and gabbed about his new hotly-anticipated flick which is currently in pre-production. The story follows a paraplegic war veteran from Earth who is taken to another planet inhabited by a humanoid race at odds with Earth’s citizens. It will be a huge movie loaded with CGI. Cameron says, "Believe it or not, the shooting is a very small part of it ... It's a very, very big project where the shooting is like a month and a half -- not really very much. There's just so much CG, and the visual effects are a huge component." While the effects will be dazzling, the cast may be low-key. "We're not looking at anyone, we're looking at everyone. There are a number of characters that we can cast from that up-and-coming talent pool. They're not going to be well-known names -- until after the movie, hopefully", he explains. In related, super-creative marketing news, HBO took a 2 page out in Variety claiming that the new James Cameron movie “Aquaman”, starring Vincent Chase, was the “biggest box office splash in history.” The fictional film featured on “Entourage” is an ongoing storyline on the popular show, and the best part is that Cameron received a bunch of calls congratulating him for his fake movie’s success (it did, after all, break Spider-Man’s” record.) Keep your eye out for Avatar in 2008, and if you’re not watching “Entourage”—well, shame on you. |
