James Cameron May Bomb Japan![]()
Tsutomu Yamaguchi, the very last of the nijyuu hibakusha, survivors of both the Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bombings of Japan by America in 1945, has died of stomach cancer at the age of 93, according to the NY Times. Truly an interesting man, Yamaguchi spent time speaking out against nuclear warfare and the struggle of living in a war shattered nation.
This doesn't sound much like film news (just a straight up tragedy to the highest degree) until you get to the second to last paragraph of the article when it's mentioned that prolific 'splosion master James Cameron recently spoke to Yamaguchi about the subject. There are no details about where exactly Cameron would go with what he learned from the surprisingly scar-free survivor, but the safe money is on a retelling of the tragedy and the ensuing aftermath. With almost no solid information, the only thing you can take away from this is that Cameron met with Yamaguchi soon before he passed away. Keep in mind the pile of films he has on his plate already, also. There's no way Cameron will be getting to anything like this within the next seven or eight years unless he's just producing. More on this as the information becomes available. |
