James Cameron Offers More Avatar 2 Details But Still Won't Commit To Starting Work On It
James Cameron's never been one to shy away from publicity, so it's no surprise that's he's out there once again talking up future sequels to his mega-hit, Avatar. He spoke with the press earlier today during an event promoting the upcoming Avatar extended edition Blu-ray set and dropped new information about the rumored sequel to Coming Soon where you can read all of Cameron’s complete discussion on the sequel subject. Here’s a few Avatar 2 bullet points from the interview:
So as of now, it's looking like we'll have plenty of waiting to do before we see an Avatar 2 (although I have no doubt that one will be coming). If you're really into Avatar however, then you always have the novel to look forward to. By the sound of it, it seems quite a bit more ambitious than your generic film novelization. Of that Cameron says, "The novel's a big project. It's not a novelization... I asked myself, 'If this had been based on a book, what would that book have been?' It ends coterminously with the end of the movie. I'm not going to give you one frame beyond that. But how about the 30 years before Jake came to Pandora? The discovery of the planet? Grace's arrival there? All the back story and the history of Earth. All the context and then everything lateral to what you see in the movie. Whether it's things that are happening off-camera or things that are happening inside the characters' heads."
