James Franco Could Love The Ladies In How-To Guide The Game![]()
James Franco’s name has been poppuig up with regards to multiple projects, from Seth Rogen’s The Apocalypse, which potentially is being supported by Sony, to Lovelace, the Linda Lovelace biopic that’s envisioning Franco as Hugh Hefner. But because the Rise of the Planet of the Apes star simply can not stay busy enough, he’s attaching his name to The Game, as well.
THR says Franco is in talks to play the lead in a planned adaptation of the how-to-pick-up-women guide by Neil Strauss. The trade says Brian Koppelman and David Levien will write and direct the adaptation, which bounced around from Columbia to Lionsgate and Spyglass before MGM settled in as the driving force behind the project. Franco would play Mystery, the stage name of Canadian dating coach Erik von Markovik who, in the book, taught Strauss the tricks of the dating trade. Mystery later went on to star in a VH1 reality show called The Pick-Up Artist. Knowing Franco’s penchant for daytime soap operas, I wouldn’t put it past him to move from the Game adaptation to a stint on a weekly VH1 program. Franco’s unpredictability is what keeps him exciting. That, and he’s an excellent actor (when the project tailors to his strengths). And The Game certainly qualifies. It’s unclear when this project might head into production, though it likely would wait for Franco to conclude his part in Rogen’s The Apocalypse, which aims to shoot this spring. |
