There’s never a dull moment in the career of James Franco. There’s a good chance he’ll get an Oscar nomination in just a few hours for his work in 127 Hours, and while that’s going on, he’s planning to make a movie about porn. Hollywood has had the hots for Linda Lovelace lately, with competing projects vying to make a movie out of the porn icon’s exploits in adult cinema, and it sounds like Franco may land in one of them.

Deadline says Franco is in talks to take on the part of pornographer Chuck Traynor in Lovelace, the Linda Lovelace biopic being directed by Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman. Franco has a connection with them, having worked with them recently on Howl. Traynor was the Lovelace’s husband when she made Deep Throat, and years later Linda would accuse him of being little more than a pimp.

This project sounds pretty good, until we get here, to the place where I have to tell you they’re after Kate Hudson to play Linda Lovelace. Say what you want about Kate Hudson, but she’s consistent: Consistently terrible. Almost no other working actress in Hollywood has a worse track record, she hasn’t made a good movie since Almost Famous in 2000 and until that changes, it’s safe to assume anything she does will suck.

This project should not be confused with Inferno, the other Linda Lovelace movie which was once supposed to star Lindsay Lohan and now seems to star Malin Ackerman. If Franco really ends up on Lovelace and with the power of an inevitable Oscar nomination behind him tomorrow morning, odds are Lovelace will be the porn queen biopic to get done first.
