James Franco Versus The Red Baron image
Modern warfare is cold, and detached. While a movie like Top Gun might be a lot of fun, nothing compares to the intimacy and grit of World War I air combat. There's nothing more beautiful than a biplane blasting through the clouds, guns blazing as it bears down on a zeppelin, or juking and diving in the midst of a dogfight with a German pilot.

With my love of all thing Red Baron (even Snoopy versus), I'm kind of surprised that I hadn't heard of Flyboys until the first teaser poster for it showed up in my inbox. Perhaps that doesn't bode well for the sort of production it is, but the dogfighting at least, looks absolutely brilliant in the trailer I've posted below before you.

The movie stars the dubiously talented James Franco and seems to have a Pearl Harbor style love story shoehorned into it, but as long as there's plenty of plane on plane action, the thing could be a helluva lot of fun.

Think about it. When was the last time we had a really good World War I dogfighting movie? Or better yet, what would dogfighting look like done up with modern technology? I'm ready to find out.
