About the only pleasure fans got out of the J-horror adaptation Pulse was the physical beauty of Kristen Bell and Ian Somerhalder, depending on your sexual preferences. Although the movie itself wasn’t that great, the potential for a franchise is rolling forward, with two direct to DVD sequels planned.

Much like the first film, the sequels are going to rely on the physical attractiveness of its star, also leaning on the following the star has from other jobs. In this case that star is Jamie Bamber, Captain Lee Adama from Battlestar Galactica (or Archie Kennedy of Horatio Hornblower if your interests tend toward the nautical). I think my wife is drooling and ready to buy the DVD already, and she wasn’t even interested in Pulse.

According to Moviehole, Bamber will star as Stephen, a former account executive who was divorced for sleeping around on his wife. The movies, which take place after the spirit-world invasion of Pulse, will find Stephen hiding out in a mountain lodge behind an armored wall of sentries. The character has to give up his sanctuary when he finds his child is still alive and has to protect both him and his child from the spirit of his ex-wife and his former fling. Ah, hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.

I’d like to say this is a good career move for Bamber, heading from successful, loyally followed shows into movies, but these are direct to DVD movies, so I can’t say it’s much of a move at all. All I can hope is that some of his Galactica fans pick up his DVDs or that the movies are worthwhile enough to break out of the direct to DVD taint that immediately comes to films like this.
