Britain’s Daily Star (via WENN) reported earlier today that Jamie Foxx (The Soloist) is in the running to play another Iconic musician five years after his Oscar winning turn in Ray, and it is none other than old blue eyes himself in Martin Scorcese’s upcoming biopic of Frank Sinatra. I can see it, Foxx is a great actor and a gifted musician with an obvious talent for mimicry made evident in Ray, not to mention the uncanny resemblance to the singer… oh wait.

An unnamed source, which is code for “this article is complete and utter BS, let’s see how long we can get away with printing it” told the Star, “Jamie would seem to be born to [play] the role. Magnificent voice, convincing acting ability - like Frank himself - born [on] the wrong side of the tracks, makes it big against all odds, has his brush with authority. The guy's a gift.” I’m not going to argue with too much of that but I think it would be irresponsible of me not to draw attention to the one little detail they seem to be missing, Frank Sinatra was a freaking white guy! I’m all for colorblind casting to a certain extent but this is ridiculous. How bad would black people feel if they got Hugh Jackman to play Ray Charles? He can sing, he can act, what’s the problem?

Although I don’t buy a word of this so-called news I have to say, the black sense of entitlement has reared its ugly head before, Remember when Beyonce expressed a huge interest in playing the first black Wonder Woman? First black superhero? Fine. First black Disney Princess? Good. First black President? Great. First black iconic character that already exists and was fine to begin with? No. First black Frank Sinatra? Just stop it. I agree that there should be more challenging roles for black people, but that doesn’t mean they have to overhaul ones that already exist.

Reportedly, Other actors in the running include George Clooney, Johnny Depp, Harry Connick Jr. and Justin Timberlake. Justin Timberlake? Okay maybe Jamie Foxx isn't the worst choice after all.
