Jane Austen Book Club Lands 7 Members![]()
With a title like The Jane Austen Book Club, it’s natural to assume that we’re talking about a chick flick. 4 actresses—Maria Bello, Emily Blunt, Maggie Grace, Amy Brenneman—have joined the cast of the film based on Karen Joy Fowler’s novel. Also on board are 3 actors who want in on the action: Jimmy Smits, Kevin Zegers, and Hugh Dancy.
According to Hollywood Reporter, the film is about a group of women and one man who join a book club in California, discussing the wonders of Jane Austen’s novels (I am partial to Pride and Prejudice, myself). Their semi-regular book chats turn into something deeper, as they explore problems within their marriages and other such dramas. For a quick rundown: Bello plays the unmarried best friend of Brenneman’s character, whose husband (Smits) bails after 32 years of marriage; Blunt is a teacher with fantasies of extra-marital affairs; Zegers plays an oversexed teen trying to bed one of the book club members; Grace is a lesbian; and Dancy is a sci-fi dweeb. Sony Pictures Classics is distributing the film, adapted by Robin Swicord, and shooting will begin on Wednesday in Los Angeles. |
