Jason Momoa Has Written A Conan The Barbarian Sequel With Mythical Creatures
Expect to start hearing a lot more about Jason Momoa. He’s spent most of his career on TV shows like the tenth season of Baywatch and Stargate: Atlantis. Recently he virtually exploded into the forefront of everyone’s mind when he delivered an amazing performance as Khal Drogo in HBOs Game of Thrones. You’re going to see him take on his first major feature film leading role in a couple weeks when Conan The Barbarian hits, and if he has anything to say about it, you’ll be hearing about him continuing that role well after that.
The 6’4” Hawaiian recently gave an interview to Crave Online where he enthusiastically explains that he has in fact written a sequel to Conan and as long as people go out to see this reboot, all the studio has to do is accept his script and they can get into pre-production. Momoa is looking to dig deeper into the mythical creatures aspect of Conan’s realm, something they decided against with this first film for budgetary reasons, as well as Clash of the Titans’ recent release. He explains:
We wanted to go there [in the first one], but having Clash of the Titans, and coming out against that, we wanted to put the budget into some other things. We just couldn't hit... We couldn't get to that level with [...] the visual effects and stuff. [...] I don't want to give anything away, but we already have our Conan, really it's about the villain, what that villain is going to extract from Conan, and where as an actor I want to go with Conan. You know, no one's going to know what I want to do better than me.A sequel to Conan is a long way away, and may not happen at all if audiences don’t take kindly to this one, but the way Momoa talks about his role is inspiring. It’s this sort of passion that Hollywood is lacking these days, you never hear about actors poring themselves this deeply into their roles and really getting serious about who they’re playing and where they as that character think the story should go. If nothing else, this brief interview has given us a reason to go see Conan the Barbarian August 19th, and that’s to support an actor who we should all be helping succeed and continue in this industry. Jason Momoa is going to be a force to be reckoned with.
