Jeffrey Dean Morgan And Gerard Butler Talk Watchmen

By Katey Rich: 2007-12-10 17:49:21

Jeffrey Dean Morgan And Gerard Butler Talk Watchmen They’re currently out promoting P.S. I Love You, which looks to be one of the lamest movies to come out all month, but Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Gerard Butler will be showing up in about a year and a half in The Watchmen, a hugely-anticipated adaptation of the graphic novel by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons. Over at the website SuperheroHype.com, an interviewer had the guts to do what I never can at press junkets, and ask about the project they really cared about.

"It's good. It's crazy. It's unlike anything I've ever been a part of and it's such a departure for me from anything I've done recently,” Morgan said about filming, which is taking place right now in Vancouver. Morgan plays The Comedian, a vigilante who serves as a superhero of types, but often only to satisfy an urge to kill. “The guy I'm playing is a little short on the moral end so it's rough. He doesn't have any; he has no morals. There's days that are rough. It's a stretch sometimes."

They also caught up with Gerard Butler, who worked with Watchmen director Zack Snyder on 300 earlier this year. “Even a tiny little thing I would do for Zack Snyder. He's my boy."

You almost feel bad for these guys out promoting P.S. I Love You and asked about their much cooler upcoming project; it must be hard pretending that this film they’re talking about right now is the one they really care about. Still, all will probably be forgotten when The Watchmen comes out on March 6, 2009. Word from the people who know about these things (i.e. not me) is that The Watchmen is a clever, brilliant kind of graphic novel, and with a superb cast—Patrick Wilson, Jackie Earle Haley and Billy Crudup also star, just to name a few—it seems headed for a slightly less pulpy feel than 300. The tagline seen throughout the comic book is “Who’s watching the Watchmen?” For right now, that answer in March of ’09 will probably be “me. And a million fanboys who look down on me for not reading the books.”
