Jennifer Lawrence is close to lining up her first post-Hunger Games gig, as Deadline reports the Oscar-nominated starlet is “in the pole position” to join Mark Wahlberg in David O. Russell’s adaptation of The Silver Linings Playbook.

If she joins the production, Lawrence would play Tiffany, the next-door neighbor of Wahlberg’s character, Pat Peoples, a one-time teacher recently released from a mental institute where he was treated for depression. Now home and ready to assimilate back into society, Pat tries to reconnect with his estranged wife, Nikki, even though he has been locked away much longer than he realizes. Instead of successfully reuniting with his spouse, Pat bonds with his neighbor (Lawrence), who suffers from her own issues. The character has been described in previous stories as a "depressed woman who, when her husband dies, goes on a sexual spree, even at the cost of her job."

Lawrence is beating out a handful of impressive actresses who were interested in the role, including Rachel McAdams, Anne Hathaway and Blake Lively. And if Lawrence lands to role opposite Wahlberg, she could begin filming Silver Linings as soon as she wraps her part in Gary Ross’s anticipated adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ The Hunger Games.

Playbook would be yet another casting feather in Lawrence’s cap, who has capitalized on her Oscar nomination for Winter’s Bone with meaty roles in Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men prequel, the Hunger Games series, and Mark Tonderai’s House at the End of the Street. Needless to say, studios likely wouldn’t be calling if Lawrence didn’t have the acting chops to back up all of this attention. But as Bone and The Beaver proved, Lawrence is a force we’ll be writing about for years to come.
