Jeremy Renner Will Play Steve McQueen In A Biopic, At Some Point![]()
Jeremy Renner, who doesn't seem to be listening to my concerns about his overexposing himself so early in his movie star career, has started a new production company that will enable him to take yet another starring role. According to THR, he and producing partner Don Handfield have formed The Combie, a production company that is putting into development a biopic about Steve McQueen.
If that doesn't sound promising enough, the script for the McQueen biopic will be written by James Gray, the writer-director behind the crime-tinged We Own The Night and the lovely romance Two Lovers; music video veteran Ivan Zacharias will make his directorial debut with the film. I can't quite figure out how this ties into another McQueen biopic announced in 2009, based on the same biography Steven McQueen: Portrait of an American Rebel. Jesse Wigutow had been writing an adaptation of the book at the time for producers Michael Cerenzie and Christine Peters; none of those people seem to be involved in the Renner project. What we all want to know, though, is how Renner will fare playing the iconic star of action films like Bullitt and The Great Escape. In many ways it's perfect casting-- Renner is becoming ubiquitous thanks to tough-guy characters in The Hurt Locker and The Town, and is well on his way to proving action credentials too thanks to Mission: Impossible-- Ghost Protocol and The Avengers. The only question is when on earth he'll find the time to play the part, especially if he accepts the offer to take over the Bourne franchise. You may be excited to see Jeremy Renner play Steve McQueen, but it may not happen until 2015. |
