Carrey and Gyllenhaal are targeting Damn Yankees as their sing-song flick of choice. Variety says New Line Cinema plans to redo the Broadway classic by modernizing it. The original play debuted in 1955 and told the story of a man who makes a bargain with the devil to help his favorite baseball team. The prince of darkness responds by turning him into a super-slugger. The devil, to seal the slugger’s soul up for good, also engages the services of a beautiful temptress named Lola, to seduce him. In the film, Jim Carrey will play the great Satan while Gyllenhaal plays Joe Boyd, the man selling his soul for baseball glory.
