Jim Carrey And Jake Gyllenhaal Team Up For A Musical![]()
Jim Carrey and Jake Gyllenhaal are doing a musical together. I had no idea either of them could sing, but their filmography suggest they’re both pretty good at playing gay, which I’m told by my friends in the theater business, means they’re halfway there. To me that seems unfair. Just because a man likes to dress up in colorful outfits and work jazz hands doesn’t mean he can’t also enjoy the love of a good woman and a glass of scotch, does it? Stereotypes are a bitch.
Carrey and Gyllenhaal are targeting Damn Yankees as their sing-song flick of choice. Variety says New Line Cinema plans to redo the Broadway classic by modernizing it. The original play debuted in 1955 and told the story of a man who makes a bargain with the devil to help his favorite baseball team. The prince of darkness responds by turning him into a super-slugger. The devil, to seal the slugger’s soul up for good, also engages the services of a beautiful temptress named Lola, to seduce him. In the film, Jim Carrey will play the great Satan while Gyllenhaal plays Joe Boyd, the man selling his soul for baseball glory. |
