Always immensely likable, even when hosting a show on the E! network, Joel McHale is finally starting to get the career he deserves. For years the man has been stuck in bit roles and small movies despite his large viewership on The Soup. Now he's the star of his own network show, Community coming back for its second season on September 23rd, and now he's close to a major role in a very popular film series.

Variety reports that McHale is in final negotiations for Robert Rodriguez's Spy Kids: All the Time in the World. In the film, the actor will a father who marries Jessica Alba's character before she is called back into the spy business to stop an evil mastermind. The twist is that McHale's character is also a reporter who hunts down spies.

It's more than likely that the role will be small compared to Alba's and the yet-to-be-cast spy kids, but, at the same time, appears to be a large part of the plot. But McHale fans shouldn't fret. Between The Big Year, the star-studded bird-watching comedy with Owen Wilson, Steve Martin and Jack Black; and What's Your Number?, in which he stars alongside Anna Faris and Chris Evans, 2011 promises to be a major year for Joel McHale.
