I had been assuming all along that in Red, the adaptation of the DC Comics book, Morgan Freeman would be playing the titular retired CIA officer who is surprised when assassins show up to kill him. Not only was it the name of his character in The Shawshank Redemption, of course, but who's better than Morgan Freeman at playing the guy you think you can take because he's old, only to destroy you?
But in a new THR article, we learn that Bruce Willis is apparently playing the assassin, leaving Freeman's role completely up in the air. John C. Reilly and Mary Louise Parker have been added as well, with Reilly as another retired agent convinced everyone is out to kill him, and Parker as Willis's romantic interest.
Despite the giant cast, Red isn't a studio movie-- at least, not yet. It's currently up for offer at the American Film Market, where all kinds of movie packages are put together and offered to potential funders. Given that Red has so many stars and a built-in comic book fanbase, expect this to be one that sells quickly.
