I've been excited along with everyone else about John Carter of Mars, because who isn't thrilled to see bona fide Pixar genius Andrew Stanton take on a live-action project? But for some reason I'm not prepared for the knowledge that movie is actually going to exist. Like, soon!
Salt Lake CIty-area TV station KSL is reporting that John Carter of Mars will start filming this fall, with the Utah desert standing in for Mars, where Civil War veteran John Carter lands at the beginning of the film. There will be $28 million worth of work done in the state, with $5.5. million of that cost offset by tax incentives.
We all saw how Stanton can make a desolate landscape beautiful in Wall-E, and I really can't wait to see how much fun he has when he's filming with a real camera, not a computer program. Get out in that desert and make us something beautiful, Stanton.
